Broward
Hydraulic Jack Service was established in 1955 by Donald F. Smith
in Broward County, a subsidary of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. By 1960, as
a hydraulic jack repair facility, Don had securely positioned the company.
It was not only reputable but a profitable company, too. The customer
list continued to grow. By the end of 1961 he had acquired all the major
american made jack franchises, not only as a service center, but also
as a distributor. Included in this list were Blackhawk, Hein Werner,
Walker, Ausco, Weaver, Milwaukee, Marquette, Stampco, Wheeler, Branick
and OTC. Then in 1962 he became a service center for Enerpac and
Greenlee. It was shorthy thereafter, that he joined an organization
called the "International Hydraulic Rebuilders Association"
(IRHA) later to become known as "Equipment Service Association"
(ESA). Through this organization he began to learn how to diversify and
added several different lines to the company. He expanded into tire changers
(big four) and hospital equipment, such as operating tables and examining
tables, hydraulic hand tools, krimpers, cable cutters, and pipe cutters.
It was at this time the word "jack"
was dropped from the company name. It didn't take long for manufactures
to realize that "Broward Hydraulic" was well established in
south Florida and began calling to have their warranty work done at the
facility. Outgrowing the original facility, Broward Hydraulic in 1974
moved to a 5200 square foot building that they currently occupy. Mr. Smith
retired in 1986 and turned the company over to his stepson, Mike McClung,
who himself had worked for Broward Hydraulic part-time through high school
and started full time in 1961. After 38 plus years involved in the company
yet another generation is in charge. December of 1999 Mike and
his wife Jayne retired and the reins were turned over to their son Alan
McClung and his wife Tami. Broward Hydraulic continues to grow and strives
to keep up with ever changing demands of our growing country. Broward
Hydraulic still repairs hydraulic jacks and pallet jacks, and also is
involved in many other high and low pressure hydraulic and pneumatic equiment
and systems. Broward Hydraulic also saw the need for rental equipment
and rents high tonage cylinders and jacks. In 1992 Broward Hydraulic became
involved in repairing freon recovery machines and Robinair vacuum pumps.
Broward Hydraulic is a factory authorized service center for R.T.I.,
Robinair, and Kentmoore yet another demand from the ever growing/changing
industry with over 45 years as a family owned business Broward Hydraulic
continues to grow in this specialized industry of hydraulics and remains
as one of the leaders in their field. |
